While this project was fairly simple, I did face some challenges such as how to stick the little LIFE people into the cardboard and cars without glue (because then the glue would create globs). It was also a little tricky getting the game spaces off the bridges and overpasses. Successes include: the overall turnout; I like that it did come out like a little town and it looks Christmassy for the holidays. Changes for next time: include more in general; maybe real lights, little globs of cotton balls for snow, or paint for a more overall impact. I picked the bag randomly, but I chose a little Christmas town because it is getting close to the holidays and I wanted to get into the spirit by creating a little town with "real" cars and people "living" there. I originally wanted to do a drive-in movie theater because I saw the cars first out of the brown bag. I decided against this idea because I didn't just want to use some of the pieces out of the bag, but make them the star of the show by using more than just the cars and people (hence the buildings and bridges).
These projects were an interesting way to create a simple yet complete bowls and trays. I liked the way they turned out, but I should have pressed very firmly into the mold and cut more precisely so they would have turned out OK. I did use some black underglaze on the tray to highlight the shell textures I used, but not on the bowl because I wanted to paint on more detail. Like I said, I do like overall how mine turned out, but wish the edges turned out cleaner and the bowl had a flat bottom. Creative idea though! Next time I would take more time pressing into the mold and on details.
