1. What skills or techniques did you learn during this unit? How did you apply them in your work? In this unit, I have improved my abilities with Prisma colored pencils by improving my shading and layering techniques. I also learned how to draw proportions correctly. A good technique for beginners, or to ensure correct proportions, is to use a template based on a large photo reference. I learned that blending seemingly arbitrary colors allows shadowing, shown here on the arms and sides of the faces. I improved my ability to draw faces by practicing and having photo references. I also challenged myself by attempting emotion on the faces rather than a straight face. Lastly, I improved my use of textures in both the natural background and on the jerseys. 2. How did you plan and create your artwork? Write about your process and your finished work. What do you like about your finished work? Is it successful? Most of the planning for this piece was in the form of sketching and practicing how to draw the emotional features on the faces, such as the smiles and the squint in the eyes. I also created a template to draw over for the basic outline for the final drawing. From that basic outline, I studied the photo for details and location of shadows and other small details. I layered many layers of Prismas to add texture and more realistic layers to the piece. I am proud of my finished work. I think it is my most realistic piece and I think the colors are pretty accurate. In most ways I think it is successful, but I wish I could have completed this piece without the template and that I could make them look more like me and my friend rather than two generic people. |
