I Solve Problems
This pie is a pretty big success ( if I do say so myself) considering that it was intended to be an acorn. Yes, an acorn. The acorn wanna-be was just born to be a pie, I guess.... this was the major problem with my project, but once I realized it just did not want to be an acorn, the pie was the next best thing! Another problem that I faced was the glaze. At first I forgot the wax, so I had to rub off the glaze I put on the wrong areas and put on a lot more wax than I probably needed to ( that is why on the top picture there is a lot of white lining the interior of the pie crust. As mentioned above, shortly after being shaped , I realized this acorn did not want to be an acorn, and instead wanted to be a DEEP deep-dish pie. While this could be because of a lot of things ( the mold I used or the lack of clay used on the top portion for example), I am more proud of it being a pie than a droopy acorn.
I Create Original Art
While by now, we all know my pie was a (happy) mistake, I am happy and relieved I thought of making it into a pie. While I could have just gone with the acorn idea (and no one probably thought of an acorn anyway), I think it was a notch more creative to do a big cherry pie. My source of inspiration was my love of food. All semester I have been wanting to create a food themed sculpture and now I finally have. Also coming soon is the sequel in this food series, which ironically enough was also not what it was intended to be. Again the wise Mrs. Sudkamp suggested a big glass of milk for the pie, so I thought "PERFECT!" ans started. Well, that glass of milk failed and ended up being a cookie jar (that my actually be functional!) Overall I am proud of my dessert themed creations.
Lidded Vessel Questions:
The type of lid I decided to use was the interior locking border similar to the kind used in my successful mini-lidded vessel. This was the best way to keep the locking mechanism hidden, yet functional. I say functional semi-loosely. The pie is functional in the sense that the lid works and will most likely stay on in very gentle motion. While it may be pretty yummy looking, don't eat it or things in it! Some of the glaze (red) is food safe but the rest is not. To build my pie (the acorn at this part of the planning), I started with a large slab of rolled clay and molded it around a bowl shaped hump mold. After I got the basic shape I used hand building to add some more features such as the cherry and detailing.
